We recently visited Smithfield Oaks to do some monitoring after our cultural burn with the Traditional Ecological Inquiry Program (TEIP). We were also joined by Chris Adlam, OSU Extension's Regional Fire Specialist and David Lewis, Assistant Professor Anthropology and Indigenous Studies at OSU. It was a great afternoon to be together in the oaks!
As you can see, the acorn weevils have made their way out, thanks to the smoke from the fire. The larvae can eat out the entire nut inside an acorn, making it worthless, but they do not damage the tree in any way. photo credit: Brian Bull Comments are closed.
