Upper Rickreall Creek 
​Large Woody Debris project

Upper Rickreall Creek has some of the highest quality spawning habitat in the county. Polk SWCD worked with the Bureau of Land Management, Hancock Forest Management and Trask Design and Construction to enhance .25 miles of the creek, increasing the complexity and diversity of the habitat. In total, nearly 80 logs have been adjusted and placed in-stream to better improve their effectiveness in: cooling stream temperatures, collecting sediment and woody debris, and providing spawning habitat for the resident Coho and Cutthroat Trout.

Upper Rickreall Creek is a magical place in Polk County that not many get to see. Join us for a morning of planting native trees and shrubs for phase 2 of a project. We will be working to restore a riparian area disrupted recently by a large woody debris project. We’re working with a small area, so we’re looking for a small group of 5 people max.  

We will meet at the Polk SWCD office (580 Main St. Suite A, Dallas, OR 97338) at 9am and carpool to the site. Snacks, water and coffee will be provided. Please bring your own work gloves and dress appropriately for wet and muddy conditions. All volunteers will be required to sign a waiver. We will return to the office for lunch from Spoon N Folks Thai Cuisine, or you can bring your own lunch.
