join the polk swcd planting group!

Polk SWCD has signed up as a group to volunteer for this event, organized by the Friends of Trees. To join our group, please register by filling out the form below.
  • EVENT: Orchard Heights Park planting, West Salem
  • TIME: Saturday, 3/4/2023 8:45 AM - 1PM
  • LOCATION: Orchard Heights Park, 1165 Orchard Heights Rd NW, Salem, OR, 97304,  *Look for our "Friends of Trees" signs to guide you as you arrive

ACTIVITIES: Your help is needed to plant hundreds of native trees and shrubs at Orchard Heights Park in West Salem! You will plant smaller-sized native trees and shrubs, which are often easier for youth (*age 6 and older recommended) to plant on their own. The terrain will be generally flat and a bit muddy–but some locations do have terrain with steep slopes that can be difficult. Your support will make a big impact at this popular community park - thank you! This event is supported by the City of Salem.

WHAT TO WEAR & BRING: Tree work can be dirty business! To make sure your experience is fun and comfortable, please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes or boots and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. It never hurts to bring a water bottle also.

PROVIDED FOR YOU: Friends of Trees will provide gloves, tools, and guidance, as well as some light breakfast snacks and coffee/tea/hot chocolate.
COVID-19 SAFETY:
Friends of Trees requires that volunteers:
-Cancel if you feel unwell, or have been exposed to someone who is Covid-19 positive within 3 days of the event
-If you choose to carpool with people outside of your household during the event (relevant for many neighborhood planting events), wear a face mask and roll down the windows to allow for ventilation
Friends of Trees recommends that volunteers: are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, wear a face mask when working closer than 6' from someone outside of your household, respect physical distancing whenever possible, and share with your planting crew what would help you to fully participate.

Thank you for your support in making our community greener and healthier for all! If you have questions or would like more information, don't hesitate to reach out to our Outreach Coordinator, Morgan Neil.
*** This event has reached capacity. Thank you to our awesome volunteers!
