This is an opportunity for livestock, including horse, farmers to share a valuable source of plant nutrients with gardeners and others farmers. The type of manure, whether or not it contains bedding (straw or wood chips) and volume available are listed. In exchange for this resource, farmers ensure protection of soil and water resources in Polk County. For this to work, it is essential that those seeking composted manure be courteous by traveling to the farm only after contacting the farm & being invited, having the appropriate vehicle to transport the manure and applying it in an ecologically sound manner at the home location.

Caveat Emptor: The individuals on the Polk SWCD exchange list are not commercial composters. Their Manure/Compost is not certified to be “weed free” or “certified organic”- no guarantees apply. Providers are not responsible to pay your hauling costs or any costs associated with vehicle/dump-truck rentals, etc. This is a goodwill – community network project so please be considerate of those participating in this service.
