Populus tremuloides, #3 6"/12", 1//16" C
The quaking aspen's bone-white bark contrasts with its deep green foliage and pops against the evergreens often growing nearby. Heart-shaped leaves twist and quiver even in a light breeze, providing the inspiration for its name, and in fall turn a brilliant golden hue that can sweep across landscapes where aspens have formed large stands. An excellent choice for managing erosion and establishing windbreaks in a yard, rarely growing taller than 60 feet.
